2011 Presidential Elections in Cameroon - date fixed for October 10th

Who is your candidate? The date for voting a new president in Cameroon is now known. The electoral college was convened by a Presidential Decree on Tuseday August 30th fixing October 10 as the day cameroonians would go to the poles to vote a president. In accordance with the law, presidential hopefuls have five days  from the day the this decree convenes the electoral college to deposit their files. In addition to a number of legal documents, each application file must be accompanied by a deposit of five million francs (5,000,000 francs CFA).
The big difference in this election is that it is going to be entirely managed by an independent electoral commission, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM). This organisation receives application files of candidates approves or reject them. aplications could be deposited at its regional offices or in its central office in Yaounde. The director of the organisation issued a communique on last Friday informing the public that ELECAM offices shall be exceptionally open on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th to receive application filles of candidates.
As Cameroonnians multiply calls for President Biya to stand for reelection in the upcoming presidential poles, morethan fifteen presidential candidates have deposited their files. This number is expected to increase by tomorrow.
The Presidential Decree coincided with Eid el Fitr Celeberations in Cammeroon after fasting for a period of one month. Muslim used the opportunity of this grand occasion to pray for peace before, during and after the presidential poles.
